‍New Collection

MONASTERY KOPORIN

Koporin Monastery is situated near the town of Velika Plana, in the valley of the Koporin River. The church presently dedicated to Saint Stephen (originally to Holy Archangels) is an endowment of an unknown nobleman. In the southern part of the west bay of the nave, the earthly remains of the founder are buried, which were once thought by some to be those of Despot Stefan Lazarević, but that has since been disproved after analyses were conducted. The portrait of Despot Stefan is preserved on the west wall of the nave, and based on it, the creation date of the wall painting is determined to be the beginning of the 15th century.

This collection was created in June 2024.

B‍LAGO 2024: IN REVIEW

BLAGO had an active year in 2024. We visited the monasteries of Ravanica, Koporin, and Sisojevac, creating material for the upcoming public collections. At the same time, we published comprehensive collections of the monasteries Sisojevac, Naupara, Rudenica, and Ljubostinja. The highlight of our work in 2024 was the publication of the new Monastery Grachanica collection, which had been in the making for a few years.

While collecting and publishing heritage is our primary activity, we also actively promote it and our work. By organizing a session at the International Medieval Congress in Leeds, UK, we established a platform for participants from Serbia and scholars of Serbian heritage from the US.

As our material is published under licenses that allow for free usage with attribution, we receive many monthly requests for reprints and republications. Many of our pictures have also found their way into the OrthoPrax app, available on Android and Apple platforms.

2025 promises exciting work, as we will be involved in several projects in Kosovo and Metohija. We also plan and hope for our first visit to several sites around Skopje, Macedonia.

We need help with funding and volunteering to continue our work. If you like what you see, please donate.

FULL OF GRACE / БЛАГОДАТНА

This richly illustrated book presents depictions of the Mother of God in Serbian medieval wall paintings. A unique, high-quality edition, with exquisite photographs accompanied by the texts written by Bishop Maksim Vasiljević and Ivana Lemcool, art historian Ph.D.

BLAGO is a non-profit, non-government organization with many volunteers. For over 20 years, we have been devoted to preserving and promoting Serbian cultural heritage. In doing so, we occasionally require the services of experts and helpers. To carry out our expeditions, we need to cover the cost of transportation and lodging. We manage photo equipment, web servers, desktops, disk arrays, and communication lines throughout the year.
